UV quartz sleeves (also known as UV quartz tubes or quartz thimbles) are high-purity transparent quartz tubes designed to encase UV lamps in water and air disinfection systems. They protect the UV lamp from direct contact with water, air, or other working media while allowing maximum transmission of germicidal UV-C light for effective sterilization.

Core Functions & Applications

Quartz sleeves serve as a protective barrier between the UV lamp and the working medium, enabling efficient disinfection without chemical additives. Common applications include:

  • Water treatment: Municipal drinking water systems, wastewater treatment plants, swimming pool disinfection, and point-of-use/point-of-entry UV purifiers

  • Air & surface sterilization: HVAC systems, hospital air disinfection units, biosafety cabinets, and food processing facilities

  • Industrial processes: Photochemical reactions, semiconductor wet bench cleaning, and ozone generation equipment

Material Properties & Key Advantages

Material Specifications

Property Specification
Material High-purity fused quartz / synthetic quartz
SiO₂ Content ≥ 99.99%
Hydroxyl (OH) Content < 5 ppm
Working Temperature Up to 950°C (continuous)
Softening Point Approx. 1250°C

UV Transmission Performance

Wavelength Minimum Transmittance
254 nm (UVC germicidal) ≥ 90%
185 nm (ozone-generating) Up to 90% (select grades)
230–380 nm ≥ 85%
Visible spectrum (400–700 nm) ≥ 90%

Key Advantages

  • High UV transmittance (>90% at 254nm) ensures maximum sterilization efficiency with minimal energy loss

  • Thermal shock resistance with a low coefficient of thermal expansion (approx. 5.5 × 10⁻⁷/°C)

  • Excellent chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, and harsh operating environments

  • Smooth surface finish (Ra ≤ 0.2μm) minimizes contaminant adhesion and simplifies cleaning

  • Long service life under proper maintenance conditions

Quality & Compliance

Our quartz sleeves are manufactured under strict quality control standards, including:

  • ISO 9001 certified production processes

  • Material compliance with relevant industry specifications for UV-grade fused quartz

  • 100% visual inspection and dimensional verification prior to shipment

UV transmittance is verified at 254nm to ensure consistent sterilization performance across all production batches.

Maintenance & Care

To maintain optimal UV system performance:

  • Inspect and clean the quartz sleeve every 3–6 months (or more frequently in hard water conditions)

  • Use a soft cloth with mild acid solution (e.g., diluted citric acid or vinegar) to remove mineral scale

  • Avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the quartz surface

  • Replace the sleeve if permanent clouding, etching, or physical damage is observed

Routine cleaning maintains high UV transmittance and extends the service life of both the sleeve and the UV lamp.
