Product Overview

What is Kynol fiber packing?

Kynol fiber packing is braided sealing material manufactured from Kynol (novoloid / phenolic) fiber yarns. Kynol is a commercial novoloid fiber with unique cross-linked phenol-aldehyde chemistry that provides high heat resistance, low thermal shrinkage, and broad chemical tolerance. In gland packing, Kynol yarns are typically pre-lubricated or impregnated with PTFE or other lubricants to combine sealing performance with low running friction.

Typical constructions & variants

  • 100% Kynol braided packing (PTFE-lubricated) — golden color, used where contamination must be minimized.

  • PTFE yarns with Kynol corners — hybrid for abrasion resistance + chemical inertness.

  • Reinforced Kynol (wire/aramid core) — for higher pressure/abrasive duties.

  • Pre-formed valve rings & cut-to-length spools — ready for valve stems & pump shafts.

Key Buyer Benefits

  • Excellent thermal stability — stable dimensions and low heat expansion under elevated temperature.

  • Good chemical resistance — performs well against acids, solvents, oils and steam (avoid strong oxidizers without testing).

  • Low friction (PTFE lubricated) — reduces shaft/stem wear and running temperature.

  • Soft but strong — easy to cut/fit yet resists extrusion under pressure.

  • Low contamination risk — suitable for pulp & paper, food-adjacent and chemical duties where graphite contamination is unacceptable.

Applications

  • Centrifugal pumps handling chemicals, acids, solvents and process liquors.

  • Reciprocating pumps, liquor pumps in pulp & paper.

  • Valve stems (gate, globe, ball) — pre-formed ring sets.

  • High temp steam and hot oil services where PTFE-based contamination is a concern.

  • Abrasive slurries (with reinforced variants) and OEM pump spares.

Technical Specifications

Values are grade-dependent. Ask for grade-specific datasheet for final selection.

  • Base fiber: Kynol® (novoloid / phenolic) fiber yarns.

  • Common construction: square braid (8-strand or 12-strand) with PTFE lubricant/impregnation.

  • Service temperature (typical): −200°C to +260°C (continuous) — some grades tolerate higher short excursions; always verify grade datasheet.

  • Recommended pH range: approx. 1–13 for many grades (varies with impregnant).

  • Maximum pressure (typical): up to ~20 MPa (200 bar) in suitable gland designs with reinforcement (consult engineering).

  • Max shaft speed: up to ~15 m/s (application dependent).

  • Electrical behavior: generally non-conductive (unless combined with conductive fillers).

  • Standard spool lengths: 5 m, 10 m, 20 m (custom lengths available).

  • Pre-formed valve kits: typically 3-ring sets matched to stem diameter.

  • Quality & testing: ISO 9001 supplies, batch test reports and MSDS available on request.

Kynol Fiber PackingCommon Sizes (industry standard)

Square cross-section sizes (metric / imperial):

  • 3.0 mm (≈1/8″)

  • 4.0 mm (≈5/32″)

  • 5.0 mm (≈3/16″)

  • 6.0 mm (≈1/4″)

  • 8.0 mm (≈5/16″)

  • 10.0 mm (≈3/8″)

  • 12.0 mm (≈1/2″)

Valve pre-formed ring examples:

  • 1/4″ stem → 3 × 3.0 mm rings

  • 1/2″ stem → 3 × 6.0 mm rings

  • 1″ stem → 3 × 10.0 mm rings

Packaging: sealed coil/spool in polyethylene → carton → pallet. Pre-formed kits in inner film + box.

Advantages — Why choose Kynol fiber packing

  1. Heat & dimensional stability — less thermal shrinkage than many organics.

  2. Chemical robustness — good resistance to many acids, solvents and process fluids.

  3. Low friction (PTFE-lubricated grades) — protects shafts and reduces energy loss.

  4. Clean for sensitive processes — avoids graphite contamination where unacceptable.

  5. Easy handling & installation — soft hand, easy to cut/fit with good recoverability.

Material Comparison Table

Property / Material Kynol (novoloid) Packing PTFE Packing Aramid (Kevlar®) Packing Expanded Graphite Packing
Temp capability −200 → ~260°C (grade dep.) ~−200 → ~260°C ~−40 → ~250°C Up to ~400°C continuous
Chemical resistance Excellent (solvents, acids) Excellent (most chemicals) Good (hydrocarbons) Good (hydrocarbons, steam)
Shaft wear / friction Low (PTFE-lubed) Very low Low–medium Low
Abrasion resistance Medium Low High Medium
Contamination risk (graphite) Low Low Low Higher (graphite shedding possible)
Best for Chemical/steam where graphite unacceptable Strong chemical attack Abrasion & mechanical load High-temp steam/hot oil

Note: final selection depends on media, temperature, pressure, shaft speed and acceptable contamination.

Installation & Best Practices

  • Inspect shaft/stem finish — recommended Ra ≤ 0.8 µm and no deep scoring.

  • Install full rings; stagger joints when using cut rings.

  • Initial gland compression: snug, run briefly, then re-tighten in small increments to set leakage.

  • Do NOT mix different materials or old/new rings.

  • For slurry or abrasive duties, use reinforced Kynol grades or add lantern ring / flush.

  • For steam: allow controlled run-in leakage, then re-adjust gland.

FAQ

Q: What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

A: Typical MOQ is 10–100 kg per SKU. Small sample or trial orders can usually be arranged — contact sales with desired sizes and quantities.

Q: What is the lead time?

A: Stock grades: 3–7 business days. Custom PTFE-impregnation/pre-formed kits: usually 7–15 business days depending on volume and tooling.

Q: Do you provide samples and datasheets?

A: Yes — sample coils or pre-formed valve sets are available (buyer covers courier unless waived). Full datasheets, MSDS and batch certificates supplied on request.

Q: Can you supply pre-formed valve rings and pump kits?

A: Yes. We deliver pre-formed ring sets, cut-to-length spools and complete pump packing kits (including lantern rings where requested).

Q: Can you customize impregnation, reinforcement and packaging?

A: Yes — PTFE loading, core reinforcement (wire/aramid), spool length, labeling and OEM packaging can be customized. Please provide application details (temperature, media, pressure, shaft speed).

Q: Is Kynol fiber packing suitable for steam and high temperature?

A: Many Kynol grades are suitable for steam up to the specified temperature limit (typical continuous ~260°C); for high-pressure/high-temp steam services request engineering review and grade datasheet.

Q: How should I install to minimize shaft wear?

A: Use PTFE-lubricated Kynol grades for polished shafts, avoid over-tightening, and follow staged tightening/run-in steps. Replace full sets, not single rings.

Q: What payment methods are accepted?

A: Typical: T/T, L/C at sight; PayPal for small orders. Terms negotiable for large/repeat customers.
