Product Overview

Aluminosilicate reflex gauge glass is used for direct liquid-level reading in reflex level gauge assemblies. It is selected for high-temperature service where a dark liquid band and a bright vapor band improve reading contrast.

This product is also commonly described as reflex sight glass, reflective gauge glass, prism sight glass, and level indicator glass. In a reflex design, incident light is reflected by the prism grooves above the liquid and refracted into the liquid, so the liquid zone appears dark and the vapor zone appears silvery.

Typical Applications

Aluminosilicate reflex gauge glass is used in level gauge bodies, pressure vessels, process tanks, and other direct-reading level indication systems. Aluminosilicate glass is typically used where pressure loads occur above 300°C, with published resistance up to 375°C.

Material and Performance

Material specification for tempered aluminosilicate glass lists a maximum pressure of 225 bar, a maximum temperature of 375°C / 707°F, thermal shock resistance of ΔT 265 K, surface compressive stress of 100–140 MPa, and a coefficient of expansion of 4.8 × 10⁻6 K⁻1. The same specification also lists hydrolytic resistance Class 1, acid resistance Class 3, and alkali resistance Class 3.

For aggressive media such as alkaline solutions and acids, a mica shield can be added to protect the glass surface.

Key Advantages

Aluminosilicate reflex gauge glass combines high thermal resistance with strong surface prestress, which supports stable operation under thermal and pressure loading. The material is intended for safety sight glass and level gauge applications at high temperature and pressure.
